Swaps...calling all who might be interested

My friend Reina who is an admitted swap-aholic has given me a few ideas and I wanted to put them out there and see what kind of interest there is.  If there is enough, then I'll just host my own swap or two.  She has done some apron swaps and is now involved in a book and bookmark swap.  I am hoping to join that one next month.  My ideas are these....  what about swapping used books - ones you already have at home.  Perhaps you could post a few on the comments section of my blog and hopefully we would have a good number of people interested and then really all you are paying for is the postage to send it to whoever wants to read it.  Then I thought about doing a sock swap.  Nothing big time, just one pair of socks.  You go to the store, pick up some funky, fun socks and send them to whoever you end up partnered with.  It could become a monthly sock swap or something and everyone gets a surprise pair of interesting socks per month.  The other one was bookmarks.  Just bookmarks in a long envelope.  I've seen some interesting ones around and I'm also going to try my hand at making a few.  I'll take pics to let you know how that turns out.  Also, what about a chapstick swap.  Seriously, what better way to try out new chapsticks.  Each person could send their partner their favorite kind of chapstick.  I don't know, it was just a few thoughts and ideas, but it won't work unless enough people want to participate.  I thought it would be better than doing those mail things where you don't send the stuff to the person who sent it to you, but somehow everyone is supposed to get a load of whatever it is you are supposed to be buying and sending off.  Well, let me know if there are any interested parties out there.  Also, if any of you have more interesting ideas than mine, add them to the list.  If there is enough interest, I'll either make a new blog or somehow put the info up on this one in a more permanent way, so no one will have to search through my posts.  Oh, by the way another consideration was being able to send these things cheaply and it would be a whole lot easier to send an envelope internationally than a box.  So....On your mark....get set.....COMMENT!! :)

I totally vote for socks and maybe bookmarks. I can't trade used books though. I am a keeper of all things ever given to me. It is the poorer side of me. I am all for swaps though...Reina got me addicted.

I totally understand, Reina has a tendency to do that! ;) Thank you everyone! I'm going to leave this up for a couple more days and then if no one else is interested, we'll just start with our little group and go from there. So far it looks like socks has won out, but maybe pattylicious and I can do our own bookmark swap....

Bookmarks are good also! But socks are my #1 choice. I am up for both!

Okay, so we have five people who are interested. Let's do the socks first and then, since everyone is also interested in bookmarks, maybe we could add them into the next one? What do you think? Now what I want to know is when should the mail out date be? I don't want to make it the first of next month because I don't want it to be rushed. This is supposed to be fun and easy. I was thinking either middle of October, that would give us all about a month to find the socks you want to send and get an envelope and get to the post office. Or we could make it the end of October. Which would you all prefer? Also, just to make sure that we all have addresses and foot sizes, would you all email me your info. Reina, of course I have your address, but since you are now in pregnancy number three, will you please update me on your foot size? After I get all the info from you ladies, I'm just going to go down the list and pair everyone in the order they responded on the comments. Then after this swap has taken place, if there is still interest in doing it again or making it a consistent thing, then we'll get creative with the pairing. I'll try to make sure that the same two people aren't paired twice for as long as that is possible with five people. :) Maybe we'll have more interested parties eventually. That's the plan. Here's my email address: ssdyess1@netzero.com

Mzzterry has put in a vote for mid-October. She also has a great idea for December: an ornament or card exchange! Oh, yeah, that's right up my alley! Anyone else's interest piqued?

Oh, yes another thing I wanted to know from you all. Does anyone have themes they are not okay with? For instance, if you are Jewish and would rather not receive a pair of Christmas socks or like we don't really make a big deal out of Santa Clause in my family. Or another example would be, I absolutely don't do Halloween. Anyway, I was thinking about that and wanted to have that open for anyone to make that known so that your partner will know. I don't want to limit more than just a specific theme because again, I don't want this to turn into something other than fun. Okay, after I receive more info, I'm going to do a new post with all the details concerning this shindig.:) Something else I noticed on other swap blogs was that when the person receives their stuff, they take a picture of it. I think that would be really fun, but I want pictures of the socks on your feet. What do you think? Then you can post the picture on your blog and I can link them all in one post on my blog. Let me know what you think about that.

Thank you Patty for your email. I'm still waiting on some info, so hopefully we can get this swap in gear soon. Since, I've only had input from Mzzterry on when to make the deadline, I'm going to go with the middle of October to get the packages in the mail. That way, if we do end up doing one a month and possibly doing an ornament swap in December, we'll get the stuff before Christmas. Yay. Another suggestion I received from a most helpful Patty was to ask favorite and least favorite colors. If you want to include that in your info, then please do. If you like surprises and don't care then put that too. I'll relay all information to your partners.
