I also am going to try this out: The Oil Cleansing Method - which I found on yonderwayfarm.com . Basically, you stop washing your face with soap or cleansing products and you use oil. Yep, you heard right...oil! So, I bought some sunflower oil and castor oil and I have jojoba on the way. I will also be putting the orange essential oil in this mixture. I want to get some tea tree, lemon and peppermint essential oils eventually, but all in good time.
I have plans to make my own conditioner, lotion and chapstick, too, but I need to order some beeswax, which I will also get off of amazon.com. :) Oh and I will be making my own cleaners soon, too. After I looked into couponing and couldn't find ANY for the "green" products with which I use to clean, I decided that I can make my own much more cost effectively and I KNOW what is in them! Plus, I'll get to use my castile soap and essential oils in addition to ingredients I already have anyway. See? MULTIPURPOSE! That's the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, I like it! Plus, if you take the time to add up how much money you spend on cleaners and such, then take a look at what you would spend on the ingredients to make your own, its pretty astounding!
Oh, and did you know you can make your own "mineral" foundation out of corn starch and cinnamon? I might try it out to see if it truly works, though I never wear foundation. Oh, the things you run across in research!

it is amazing the stuff you can find on the internet. do you make your own laundry detergent? a lot of my friends do & I think i am going to start. It is so much cheaper. They all say it works well. way cheaper. we need unscented so i might as well do it myself. i use the castile cleaner, it is pretty good for some stuff. i like the green aspect. keep us posted on your lotions & chapstick etc....i wanta know how it works!
MzTerry, I don't make my own detergent. I buy it off of amazon.com. Its called country save and it is unscented and pretty bare bones. I found out about it through my research into what to wash cloth diapers with and this one was the one the came out the best for me. I use it to wash everything!!! I finally ordered my second batch this past January after nearly a year and a half. You don't use very much, even in a top loader and it comes in 4 - 10lb boxes. I will be coming up on a year in January and I still have 2 1/2 boxes left! It is free shipping and I use the automatic order option which I am able to keep pushing back until I actually need to order some more and save even more. I think it ends up being about $58 per order. Not bad for more than a year's use. :)
I used my shampoo and face oil for the first time this morning. I'll have to do another post after I've given it a week or two. So far, I think it will work fine with a bit of tweaking.:)
Vanessa, you know you wanna try it!;p
Shelly! You know the best way (I've found) to clean? Baking soda and vinegar. They have books and books about the uses of these... plus, a bit of fresh lemon juice and you have a totally natural, effective, awesomely fresh smelling abode. If only I'd use the ideas more often!
